UK Choir of the Year’s Fundraising Concert

Cadogan Hall Empty Auditorium. Uk Choir of the year fundraiser venue - national amateur choral competition

Cadogan Hall is a leading London venue in the heart of Chelsea. With 950 seats, excellent acoustics and lively surroundings, the Hall is the first choice for many of the UK’s top orchestras and choirs, including their residents, the Royal Philharmonic, as well as UK and international artists across all genres. They also offer a variety of rock and pop, jazz, folk, world, musical theatre and family events, as well as spoken word, talks, book launches and podcast recordings.

This special fundraising concert, hosted by TV’s Dr Ranj, brings together three brilliant amateur ensembles: Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, Citi London Choir and The Adam Street Singers for a celebration of harmony and community.

This spectacular night of classical, musical theatre and pop-choral music also features guest performances by Dr Ranj himself and The Choir With No Name, a choir for people affected by homelessness and marginalisation whose joyful energy and inspirational mission celebrate the transformative power of singing and add something truly unforgettable to the night.

It is also an opportunity to hear from us, the organisers, and learn more about the new competition.

All proceeds go directly towards funding the UK Choir of the Year competition, helping us provide opportunities, bursaries, and a platform for choirs across the country.

The Adam Street Singers

Founded in 2010 as a sing-along and a drink, The Adam Street Singers are now known for their fun mash-ups, original creative arrangements and high-energy performances.

Led by professional Musical Directors Phil Mitchell and Ricardo Fernandes, and run by a volunteer committee headed by Hannah Perkins, the choir rehearses weekly singing pop, rock, and musical theatre; sometimes even with a touch of choreography. They are available for hire.

Over the past 15 years they’ve performed at countless gigs, recorded in studios, and raised money for charities. From flash-mobbing weddings and engagements to singing at funerals for members’ relatives, they’ve truly become a choir family.

Highlights include performing at the Royal Albert Hall, appearances on BBC Radio and This Morning.

Citi London Choir

Founded in 2013 by Gareth Malone on Sing While You Work, Citi London Choir went straight to the final at Ely Cathedral for a TV audience of 3M+! From 22 to 40 singers today, this workplace choir brings together colleagues from across Citi’s Canary Wharf office.

Led by top music professionals Dan Ludford-Thomas (UK Choir of the Year Judge) & Phil Mitchell, they perform both classical and contemporary music, at various gigs from TV reunion concerts raising funds for Cancer Research UK, to gigs at St. James’ Palace, Symphony Hall, Cipriani NYC, and London’s Pride Festival.

They’ve also won Music In Offices’ Choir of the Year and featured in Brandenburg Choral Festival multiple times, plus viral video performances during the pandemic that lifted spirits worldwide. Now, they keep sharing their music with colleagues, clients, and the community.

Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir

The Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir first came to national attention on Gareth Malone’s “Sing While You Work” (BBC Two) in 2012. Run entirely by NHS staff on a voluntary basis, headed by Caroline Smith, the choir brings together colleagues from across hospitals and community services, raising funds for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Charitable Funds under the musical direction of Phil Mitchell.

In 2015 the choir reached Christmas Number 1 in the official UK chart. Since then they have performed at landmark venues including the Royal Albert Hall, The Brit Awards, Wembley Arena and Glastonbury Festival.

They’ve sung for the Queen’s Christmas Broadcast from Windsor Castle, and also for King Charles III on the occasion of his birthday at Buckingham Palace. They have collaborated with and supported artists including Justin Bieber, Rag’n’Bone Man, Pink, Squeeze, Mcfly, Travis and Russel Watson.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic the choir continued to rehearse and perform, creating online projects in support of NHS staff and charities, and they continue to sing, fundraise and represent the power of collective music-making within the NHS today.

You can see them perform on their Youtube and Instagram pages.
